Children's picture book about self-esteem and creative problem-solving
Tractor Worries introduces children to mindful breathing for self-regulation and demonstrates the power of creative-problem solving.
The book models a healthy way of handling a tricky situation without asking leading questions which could fuel more anxiety. Unlike many books on similar topics Tractor Worries does not demand any action from the child. Additionally, the thoughtful design, font selection and sizing make the text fun and interesting even to pre-readers.
A different kind of tractor book!
How Tractor Worries came to be
One warm sunny afternoon little Max was running around the house with his toy hammer, ‘fixing’ things. Max's dad, with his rational practical head, said: “you can’t fix things by banging into them with a hammer”. Johanka, Max’s Nona, with her creative, often up-in-the-clouds head, drew pictures showing you can. I said these pictures would make a great children's book....then several years have passed...
In September of 2022 Johanka, my mum, suddenly passed away. Sorting through the art she gifted to us over the years I came across these forgotten drawings. Creating a book using these drawings was an opportunity to make something beautiful in the midst of all the pain and sadness.
Combining Johanka's wonderfully charming drawings and my view of the world I was able to create a gentle, beautiful book which carries meaningful messages about facing self-doubt, using mindful breathing to calm the mind and the importance of being kind not just to others but to ourselves as well.
Thank you mum for always being there for me whenever I needed to talk (and always being there for everyone else!). Thank you for always imagining a world full of possibilities and for being so wonderfully you.
